Children's Assembly

The purpose of this page is to record events at the democratic meetings of children aged 5-6. The meetings take place within the kindergarten once a week during the children's rest time, and the purpose of the meetings is to give the children the opportunity to express themselves, develop social skills, initiative and autonomy.

The size of the children's groups is 6-7 participants, depending on the composition of the children's group.

The theme is chosen by the teachers and the children and should reflect the activities that the children are interested in. Everyone has the opportunity to express themselves, manage meetings and abstain.

The meetings are based on the values of respect, tolerance and participation. Democracy meetings are an important part of the curriculum of preschools in Iceland.

Democratic meetings are 15 to 20 minutes. The length is based on the children's endurance to attend the meeting to promote their well-being during the meeting.
